Why don’t you take insurance?
Like a growing number of doctors, Dr. J has opted not to accept insurance because it causes unnecessary barriers on the doctor-patient relationship. One of the main reasons why primary care doctors are so rushed (and so unhappy) is because of the ever-increasing requirements placed on them by insurance companies and large hospital systems. Due to these demands, doctors have more paperwork to submit, less control over their schedules, and less time to spend with the patients that they love to care for. Direct Primary Care (DPC), a model of care that an increasing number of doctors such as Dr. J employ, resets and revolutionizes health care by putting patients and doctors back at the center of the relationship where they belong!
Dr. J realizes that families spend a lot of money on health insurance and will actively work with families to submit reimbursements to their insurance companies. Most insurance companies cover some, if not all, of the cost for visits, labs, and vaccines.
Why switch to
Healthy Home Pediatrics?
Do you feel rushed when you take your child to doctor appointments? Do you want to see the same trusted Pediatrician instead of a different doctor or nurse every time? Do you wish your Pediatrician had time to speak with your child’s specialists to make your visits more efficient? Do you wish you had easier access to your Pediatrician when you need it?
If you answered yes to any of these questions then Healthy Home Pediatrics may be right for you! Healthy Home Pediatrics is committed to ensuring that patients have helpful and fulfilling contact with their Pediatrician, when they need it. House calls are well suited for busy families, families with multiple children, families that rely on Metro or ride shares, families with newborns, families with medically complex children, and all families who want a lasting relationship with one caring doctor. And best of all, since the doctor comes to you there is no need to take your baby or sick child in to the doctor!
Why house calls?
Because they make sense!
Much of what Pediatricians do is ask questions about what happens at home such as: what does your child eat, what is your bedtime routine, and are there any home exposures like mold, strong fragrances or dust? How much easier would it be for your doctor to do a house call and talk about all of this from the comfort of your home?
As a Pediatrician and a mom, Dr. J appreciates not having to carry a sick child across town to see the doctor. When her midwives and doula did house calls before the births of her sons, she and her husband appreciated the non-rushed and laid-back nature of the visits and truly believe they helped.
An increasing number of patients are requesting house calls and historically, many primary care physicians and midwives performed home visits or house calls. Dr. J wants her patients to experience this as well and is committed to providing this innovative, yet time-tested service to busy families in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.
WHAT IS DIRECT PRIMARY CARE?
Direct Primary Care, or DPC, is a model of healthcare that puts patients first by getting rid of the red tape by which most other traditional practices are restricted. No insurance company or large hospital system telling the doctor what to ask or limiting how much time can be spent. It is just your family and your doctor working together collaboratively.
Does Health Home Pediatrics accept insurance?
No. Healthy Home Pediatrics does not accept health insurance. However, having insurance can help pay for services not covered by HHP membership such as emergency room care, specialist visits (e.g. Development and Cardiology), and labs. Dr. J will work with you to find the most cost-effective options. For your convenience she will submit reimbursements to your primary health insurance. Most insurance plans cover at least some of the costs of your visits, labs, and other services.
Do I still need health insurance for my child?
Probably. Insurance can be helpful for services not covered by the monthly membership such as vaccines, urgent care, emergency room and specialty care visits. We recommend that you speak with a financial advisor or your insurance company to help pick the best plan for you.
Can I get reimbursed by my insurance company for services?
Most insurance plans cover at least some of the costs of your visits, labs, and other services. While Dr. J does not directly accept insurance payments, she will help you with the paperwork your insurance company needs if you would like her to.
wHAT IS YOUR VACCINE POLICY?
Dr. J believes that vaccines are important tools in preventing vaccine-borne illness. She follows the American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control vaccine schedule. Dr. J gets routine vaccines for herself and her family because she believes that they do more to prevent vaccine-borne illness than they cause harm.
Dr. J is willing to work with families if they choose alternative vaccine schedules, but families resistant to all vaccines and who do not want to have deep discussions about vaccines are likely not a good fit for this practice.
What happens if my child needs to go to the hospital, see a specialist, or has an Individualized Education Plan?
Dr. J believes that seamless care coordination is very important to having healthy kids and uses it regularly for her patients. With your permission, in addition to sending her detailed notes, she will personally reach out to any specialists you are referred to including Emergency Room Physicians. Additionally, if your child has an Individualized Education Plan or 504 Behavior Plan, she will reach out to the School Psychologist or Counselor.
Regular check-ins with specialists is an integral part of the proactive plan families will develop with Dr. J.
