Does Health Home Pediatrics accept insurance?

No. Healthy Home Pediatrics (HHP) does not accept health insurance and Dr. J is an out-of-network provider. Having insurance can help pay for services not covered by HHP membership such as emergency room care, specialist visits (e.g. Development and Cardiology), vaccines, and labs. For your convenience she will provide a detailed super bill for you to submit to your primary health insurance. Some insurance plans cover at least some of the costs of your visits, labs, and other services. Call your insurance company to determine out-of-network benefits for primary care, sick visits, vaccines, and labs.

Why don’t you take insurance?

Like a growing number of doctors, Dr. J has opted not to accept insurance because it causes unnecessary barriers on the doctor-patient relationship. One of the main reasons why primary care doctors are so rushed (and so unhappy) is because of the ever-increasing requirements placed on them by insurance companies and large hospital systems. Due to these demands, doctors have less time to spend with the patients that they love to care for, more paperwork to submit, and less control over their practices. Concierge Medicine or Direct Primary Care (DPC), is a model of care that an increasing number of doctors such as Dr. J employ. It resets or revolutionizes health care by putting patients and doctors back at the center of the relationship where they belong!

Dr. J realizes that families spend a lot of money on health insurance and will provide a detailed super bill for patients to submit to their insurance companies.

Can I get reimbursed by my insurance company for services?

Some insurance plans with out-of-network coverage cover at least some of the costs of visits, labs, and other services performed by an out-of-network physician. HHP does not guarantee that patients will be reimbursed for any of the out-of-network services provided. Call your insurance company to determine out-of-network benefits for primary care, sick visits, vaccines, and labs.

Why house calls?

Because they make sense!

Much of what Pediatricians do is ask questions about what happens at home such as: what does your child eat, what is your bedtime routine, and are there any home exposures like mold, strong fragrances or dust? How much easier would it be for your doctor to do a house call and talk about all of this from the comfort of your home?

As a Pediatrician and a mom, Dr. J appreciates not having to carry a sick child across town to see the doctor. When her midwives and doula did house calls before the births of her sons, she and her husband appreciated the non-rushed and laid-back nature of the visits and truly believe they helped.

An increasing number of patients are requesting house calls and historically, many primary care physicians and midwives performed home visits or house calls. Dr. J believes her patients deserve to experience this as well and is committed to providing this innovative, yet time-tested service to busy families in the District of Columbia and surrounding Maryland and Virginia.

WHAT IS Concierge or DIRECT PRIMARY CARE?

Concierge Medicine or Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a model of healthcare that puts patients first by getting rid of the red tape by which most other traditional practices are restricted. No insurance company, large hospital system, or clinic manager telling the doctor what to ask or limiting how much time can be spent. It is just your family and your doctor working together collaboratively.

Why switch to

Healthy Home Pediatrics?

Do you feel rushed when you take your child to doctor appointments? Do you want to see the same trusted Pediatrician instead of a different doctor or nurse every time? Do you wish your Pediatrician had time to speak with your child’s specialists? Do you wish you had easier access to your Pediatrician when you need it?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then Healthy Home Pediatrics may be right for you! Healthy Home Pediatrics is committed to ensuring that patients have helpful and fulfilling contact with their Pediatrician, when they need it. House calls are well suited for busy families, families with multiple children, families that rely on Metro or ride shares, families with newborns, families with medically complex children, and all families who want a lasting relationship with one caring doctor. And best of all, since the doctor comes to you there is no need to take your baby or sick child in to the doctor!

Do I still need health insurance for my child?

That's up to you, but probably. Insurance can be helpful for services not covered by the monthly membership such as vaccines, urgent care, emergency room and specialty care visits. We recommend that you speak with a financial advisor or your insurance company to help pick the best plan for you.

Before you sign up, make sure to call your insurance company to determine out-of-network benefits for primary care, sick visits, vaccines, and labs.

wHAT IS YOUR VACCINE POLICY?

Dr. J believes that vaccines are important tools in preventing vaccine-borne illness. She follows the American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control vaccine schedule. Dr. J gets routine vaccines for herself and her family because she believes that they do more to prevent vaccine-borne illness than they cause harm.

Dr. J is willing to work with families if they choose alternative vaccine schedules. She is deeply committed to open communication, ongoing education, and true collaboration with families.

What happens if my child needs to go to the hospital, see a specialist, or has an Individualized Education Plan?

Dr. J believes in the power of one-on-one and team communication. With your permission, she sends her detailed notes to specialists. If helpful, she will personally reach out to any specialists you are referred to including Emergency Room Physicians. She believes in the power of regular check-ins with specialists as an integral part of child health

Additionally, if your child has an Individualized Education Plan or 504 Behavior Plan, she will reach out to the School Psychologist or Counselor. If you request it, she can make arrangements to attend the meetings in person with you to help advocate for your child.

How will I know if Dr. J is the right Pediatrician for my child?

By getting to know her! Dr. J offers a complimentary prenatal visit to pregnant and pre-adoptive parents in their home. She also offers a complimentary chat to parents of older children by phone, video or in her neighborhood. To schedule, please contact Dr. J.
